1The Tasmania State Emergency Service provides a
2volunteer response capability for severe storms and floods,
3road crash rescue, search and rescue/recovery and a range of other
4general rescue and community support roles.
5In addition the SES provides whole of government
6advice and executive support to the State Disaster Committee
7and Region Disaster Planning Groups. 
8It also takes the lead with much of the State's emergency
9management planning and emergency risk management
10work\footnote{http://www.ses.tas.gov.au}.
11Such work involves understanding the relative risk
12of a range of natural disasters so that resources can be directed to appropriate areas
13and corresponding evacuation plans put in place.

15The key role of the Risk Research Group at Geoscience Australian
16is to develop knowledge on the risk from natural and
17human-caused hazards for input to policy and operational decision making on
18the mitigation of risk to Australian communities. The Group achieves
19this through the development of computational methods, models and decision
20support tools that assess the hazard, vulnerability and risk posed by hazard
21events. To develop an understanding of the tsunami risk, GA has developed
22decision support tools, consisting of inundation
23maps overlaid on aerial photography of the region
24detailing critical infrastructure as well as damage modelling estimates.

26This report supports the Tasmania State Government's Natural Disaster
27Mitigation Programme project on understanding tsunami risk to Tasmania.
28In particular,
29the work presented will support paloetsunami investigations to understand
30the history of tsunami impact to Tasmania. This support provides a tsunami
31inundation model based on a plausible event occurring on the Puysegur Trench
32(see Section \ref{sec:methodology}).

34The modelling technique to simulate the
35impact ashore is discussed in Section \ref{sec:methodology} and data inputs
36discussed in Section \ref{sec:data}.
37The inundation results are presented and discussed in Section \ref{sec:results}.
38A summary of the results detailing issues
39regarding underlying data and further model development, are discussed
40in Section \ref{sec:summary}.
